SELF - PORTRAIT I

My first collection; 'don't judge a book by its cover' was a Utopian vision, a romantic creation of subtlety and mystery, deceptive textures and quiet detail expressed and affected idealisation.

My new collection is an autobiographical portrait of internalised conflict and self-discovery. The work is a dialogue between idealisation and pragmatism. The work is vague, without clear boundaries or patterns, it is an externalisation of the process and joy of creation without aims or expectations.

It is a stage, it is in stasis, a time lapse series of changing thoughts and experience, each piece unique, finished and unfinished, mounted on an organic canvas which evolves and contorts with the creation. Every piece is a balance and tension between the perfectionist and the impossibility and chaos, disorder and beauty of nature.

contemporary jewellery / Ceramic / Art / object Deborah Tseng is a  London based designer and artist. She combines her extensive education in crafts with traditions and ideas from a range of visual arts. She is inspired by repetition, by decay, by time and by the minutiae of the world around her.   She hand makes all of her objects and jewellery in porcelain and metal. Her work layers varying subtle and deliberate textures, all shrouded in the colour white.  This disguises the intricacy and invites the observer to look closely or physically interact with the work.
